Starving Health Workers Strike After 4 Years Of Non Payment

Health workers in Bugweri district with support from the community have protested over non-payment of their salaries for over 4 years.
The protest that occurred yesterday 4th August saw activities in Minani HC III in Namalemba Sub County, Bugweri district paralyzed with patients idling around the compound helpless.
Katamba Corallines and Nakiranda Lydia who led the protest said since they began working in Minani HC III in 2017, they haven’t received any salary as promised by the district leaders.
They threw tree logs, stones in the road leading to the HC before burning motor vehicle tyres thereby blocking access to the Health Center.
The protesters accused the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Bugweri district, Mukose Jonathan for repeatedly failing to respond to their concern.
The CAO was conspicuously absent from the scene yet the Health workers wanted to hear from him.
Efforts to get a comment from him were futile.
Over 20 workers are being affected.
Kakaire Daniel, the chairman for Minani Management Health Community who was part of the protest said the medical workers have a right to protest over their pay.
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Rugaju Gad Ahimbisibwe rushed to address the protesters concern and promised to forward the matter to the Ministry of Public Service for redress.
The District Health Officer (DHO) Bugweri, Peter Muwereza said he was aware of his staff’s concern but hastened to add that the matters was beyond his office.
