TORORO
Tororo Mayor, John Opio has been announced winner of yesterday’s highly contested National Resistance Movement mayoral elections.

According to Tororo district NRM registrar Joseph Kadokech, Opio John fetched 4167 votes followed by his immediate rival, Elisha Adyeri with 3, 348 and James Etuket another candidate in the race obtained 2623 votes.
Meanwhile this declaration was immediately rubbished by Elisha Adyeri and James Etuket.
While petitioning the Tororo district registrar’s office, Etuket said results of some polling stations were manufactured.
For instance Etuket wonders how Opio obtained 1027 votes from Agururu A parish in Bison A village.
Another area was Ogalla village where Etuket alleges that Opio got 18 votes but the results at the tally centre reflects 219 the same he said happened in Water village zone.
Generally the election as observed by our reporters was characterized by voter bribery in almost all polling stations.
This was evidenced in the Municipal Gardens where some voters demanded money before they could join any candidate’s line.
Meanwhile the set Standards of procedures by ministry of health to fight Corona virus that involves hand washing, observance of social distancing and wearing of face masks were not followed.
