SOROTI

The National Resistance Movement Party Electoral Commissions of both Soroti District and City have declared that they will not conduct elections for Soroti City Mayor and councilors until the boundary matter has been resolved.

Headed by Musa Oroma, the NRM District Registrar Soroti, the officials claim they cannot hold elections in non-gazetted boundaries.

Oroma who spoke to our reporter at his office in Soroti says, they are currently faced with a challenge of conducting elections for City mayor and councilors because the electoral commission has not given them a gazette.

He also attributes the ongoing confusion to politicians whom he says are misguiding the electorates.

Oroma now calls on the Ministry of Local Government and Electoral commission to intervene into the mess.

Andrew Odongo, the former Soroti District Council Speaker blames the current Soroti Municipality MP, Herbert Edmund Ariko of being at the centre of the confusion.

Odongo says, Ariko wants to annex some Wards in Soroti West including Aloet Ward and Orwadai ward to Soroti East for his political gain.

But efforts for a comment from Ariko went futile as his known MTN number went unanswered by Press Time.
