The NRM Elections Dispute Tribunal (EDT) has released a program indicating how it will conduct the hearing of the over 700 petitions it has received.
In the tentative program, the EDT will be in Eastern Uganda starting with the Busoga region on 1st October, 2020. According to the schedule, Busoga region has the highest number of petitions in the East with 67 petitions.
On the 2nd of October, the EDT will be handling Bukedi region which comes second with 35 petitions.
The EDT will then shift attention to Bugisu/Elgon area on the 4th of October to hear 33 petitions.
Teso sub region will be handled last as it has the least number of petitions totaling to 29.
The EDT was constituted by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) under the Chairmanship of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Election Disputes Tribunal consisting of 20 Advocates is headed by Mr. Barata Enock and is to expeditiously hear and determine all the election petitions.
The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon Justine Kasule Lumumba made the revelation this Sunday during the weekly Press conference held at the Party headquarters. She however declined to disclose the identities of the 19 advocates adding, “it’s a strategy to keep such details undisclosed for the petitioners to face them on the very day of hearing their cases”.
SG Lumumba said, the National Chairman will also set up panels of eminent persons in the various NRM Political Zones to carry out and conduct fact finding and reconciliation mechanisms among the members that participated in the Party Primaries. “They will report back to CEC for appropriate action”, she said.
