Shartsi Musherure Nayebare, the daughter of foreign affairs minister Sam Kutesa, has disputed the outcome of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries in Mawogola North, Sembabule district, where she lost to President Museveni’s younger brother, Aine Kaguta Sodo.

In her petition to NRM electoral commission chairman Tanga Odoi, Nayebare claimed the voting was marred with confusion and that there was no voting in six of her stronghold villages.

At the district tallying centre, the NRM district returning officer, William Katokozi, declared Sodo winner with 17,343 votes while Nayebare polled 16,104 votes. Salim Kisekka got 4,274 votes.

Nayebare then handed her petition to Odoi.

Sodo dedicated his victory to supporters and promised to bring more developmental projects such as clean water to the constituency once elected to Parliament.

In Mawogola West, Anifa Kawooya floored incumbent MP Joseph Sekabiito. Kawooya garnered 15,923 votes while Sekabiito got 13,143 votes.

Meanwhile, Mary Begumisa won the NRM ticket for the Woman MP. She polled 73,940 votes compared to Jovanice Twongeirwe’s 16,448 and Phoebe Arinitwe’s 11,011.
