The embattled Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale district and aspiring candidate for Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Connie Galiwango has said the selfishness in NRM is killing the Party in Mbale.

Galiwango said this yesterday, 30th September after it became public that the NRM Electoral Commission had put her nemesis, Lydia Wanyoto ahead of her in the preliminary recounted votes.

In the released results Wanyoto polled 28,061 votes from 331 polling stations, whereas Connie Galiwango came second with 18,872 votes.

In reaction Galiwango said the reduction of the contested polling stations from 129 to 58 was a calculated ploy to rig her out.

“Why did they have to reduce the number of cells where voting was to be repeated from 129 to 58? This is because they are aware that even if voting is repeated in this 58 cells, my votes can’t add up to cover the existing gap between my votes and those of Wanyoto.” Galiwango said.

She vowed not to participate in any re-run reemphasizing her earlier declaration to contest as an Independent.

“Selfishness has killed NRM in Mbale. I will contest as an Independent,” She declared.

Meanwhile, Lydia Wanyoto was in a celebratory mood telling her supporters that victory had always been hers from day one.

The Impending declaration of Wanyoto as NRM flag bearer has left Mbale residents deeply divided with majority arguing that Galiwango is only being punished for voting against the Presidential Age Limit removal.

“We told Galiwango from the beginning to either cross to FDC or contest as an Independent but she stubbornly went ahead to participate in the NRM Primaries. She is being punished by the Party for voting against the Age Limit Bill,” Wilfred Oducha, a resident in the City said.
