The former Minister of Education has in what appears to be a vote of no confidence been nominated to contest for Katakwi Woman MP as an independent.
Jessica Alupo Epel, this morning 16th October 2020 presented herself to contest against Violet Akwi Adome the NRM flag bearer.
Akwi was declared Flag bearer on Wednesday after a vote repeat in Okoro Sub County. She was able to garner 19,000 voted against Alupo’s 82 votes.
Alupo is contesting the results arguing that the Sub County has less than 3000 registered voters according to the Independent Electoral Commission.
Katakwi is one district that has given Tanga Odoi real headache.
In the first results, Alupo was declared winner. Akwi however petitioned the NRM EC dispute tribunal. The tribunal overturned Alupo’s victory on the basis of voter bribery and intimidation.
The NRM CEC however challenged the decision of the tribunal and ordered for a re election in Okoro Sub County.
Akwi needed 10,000 votes to overturn Alupo’s victory. Which given the known number of voters in the area was impossible.
But given that this is Uganda, Akwi managed to get 19000 votes.
