The Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization has revealed that some politicians in Mbale are forcing Chinese Investors at the Industrial Park to give them money in exchange of favours.

Evelyn Anita made the warning while commissioning the mattress factory at Mbale industrial park last week.

She warned the said politicians against extorting money saying this chases away investors.

According to the Minister, they have received complaints from investors that there are some politicians who are extorting huge amounts of money from them to use for their campaigns.

She revealed that these politicians threaten the investors that if they refuse, they will paint them with a bad image of being partisan with the aim of wanting the government to cancel their licenses.

She urged the investors to report such politicians to the RDC such that they can be arrested for promoting corruption and scaring investors.

Anite also revealed that the government has plans of constructing a road in the Democratic Republic of Congo to help in exporting its products since there is a ready market in Congo.

Owen Chain, the owner of the mattress factory commissioned said the factory will be producing three million mattresses per year and will employ over 300 youths.

Chain added that he hopes to bring more sewing machines and open a hotel which will employ more 1000 young people especially girls.
