The Rakai Hospital Medical Director, Dr Yasin Kiyimba, has succumbed to COVID-19 after spending two weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Rakai hospital administrator Patrick Ssekidde confirmed the death of Kiyimba, saying he was first admitted at Nsambya Hospital with complications and a test was later done which confirmed that he had contracted COVID-19.
He was then immediately transferred to Mulago and died today 5th November 2020.
It was shocking news to relatives and friends who said he had been very active in the fight against COVID-19 in his district and in the hospital.
Health ministry statistics indicate that so far, 117 people have died of COVID-19 in Uganda.
Results of COVID-19 tests done on November 3 confirm 252 new cases, bringing the cumulative cases of the virus to 13,351.
