IGANGA
National Unity Party (NUP) leadership in Iganga thinks Police in the district gave Patrick Amuriat Oboi of FDC, preferential treatment yesterday 9th November, 2020.
While on his way to launch his presidential campaigns in Soroti, FDC’s Amuriat made a stopover in Iganga Municipality and was allowed to address his supporters. This is what the NUP leadership in Iganga is calling preferential treatment because according to them, their NUP Presidential Candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi is never given such chances.
Francis Muganga, the NUP flag bearer for Iganga municipality MP seat, said on most occasions police has fired tear gas at supporters of Kyagulanyi whenever he makes brief stopovers in the town center.
Muganga said they expect police to behave professionally next time by allowing their candidate Kyagulanyi to speak to his supporters in case he makes a stopover just like they allowed Amuriat.
Bamu Lulenzi, the NUP coordinator for Busoga region said supporters of Kyagulanyi expressed concern as to why police always fires tear gas at them yet they have always behaved well without doing any provocative acts.
Meanwhile, Amuriat (POA) promised to elevate Iganga hospital into a referral status in case he is elected into office on January 14 next year.
Amuriat made the remarks while on a brief stopover in Iganga where he spoke to hundreds of FDC supporters who stood on either sides of the main highway.
The supporters who were donned in blue FDC T-shirts had by 8.30 am lined up along the main highway waiting for the arrival of their presidential candidate.
Amuriat who was accompanied by the FDC Woman Member of Parliament candidate Iganga, Mariam Nantale and Stella Nyanzi, the FDC flag bearer for Kampala said Iganga district being at the center of Busoga deserves a referral hospital since it accommodates a huge number of patients from neighboring districts.
“Besides being on the main highway there are many patients being admitted from the neighboring districts yet the services in the small hospital are minimal,” he said.
He urged Ugandans to remain united so that they can be able to vote out the ruling NRM government.
Amuriat who was bare footed while sitting on top of his vehicle, promised to improve on the infrastructure like roads in Iganga district to enable farmers easily transport their produce to the nearest markets in case he is elected president.
Amuriat was later escorted by police from Iganga to Nakalama trading center almost five kilometers away and instructed to drive straight to Soroti.
Mariam Nantale urged people of Iganga district to elect her into office if case they are to realize effective representation of the area in parliament.
Nantale who is making a third attempt promised to utilize her skills as a lawyer to lobby investors come into the area to set up projects that will provide employment opportunities to youths.
