The candidature of two Member of Parliament aspirants in Tororo district hangs in balance after a voter petitioned the Electoral Commission.
A voter in West Budama Central wants the two parliamentary candidates denominated over contradicting documents
The petition was handed over to the Electoral Commission by a one Eric Oboth a voter from Nabuyoga Town Council.
In the petition, Oboth wants the nomination of Geoffrey Oyita and Oketcho Lazarus Ojiek canceled.
According to Oboth, Oketch Lazarus Ojiek was nominated with wrong academic documents that bore the names Oketch Lazarus O instead of Oketch Lazarus Ojiek as witnessed in both O and A level certificates.
Oboth in his petition says Oketch Lazarus has never made any deed poll in line with the said contradictions.
Oboth also attached Geoffrey Oyita in the same petition arguing that there are several inconsistences and contradictions surrounding Geoffrey Oyita.
For instance, Oboth indicated that Oyita’s Uganda Certificate of Education bears the names Oita Hary Geoffreys which is totally different with the names in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education that bears the names Oita Geoffrey Okoth.
Oboth now wants the Electoral Commission to cancel the nominations of Oketch Lazurus and Oyita Geoffery because it was done illegally.
He also asked the Electoral Commission to interest itself in the case of Achola Catherine Osupele Vs EC of 2018 where the NRM legal directorate petitioned electoral commission to denominate her from the Woman Member of Parliament race for Pallisa district on the same grounds and indeed the commission led by Justice Simon Byabakama denominated the candidate from the race
eastnews is yet to get a response from the Electoral Commission in regards to this development.
