Finally works on two roads in Mbale City have commenced.
While commissioning the beginning to the roads’’ construction on Friday 20th November, the Mbale RDC Baraza Ogajjo Suleiman, revealed that only two roads will be worked on.
The two roads that will cover 2.5kms are Naboa and Cathedral Avenue Roads.
Recently in an interview with the Public Relations Officer, (PRO) Mbale City, James Kutosi, he revealed that three roads were going to be worked on. These included; Naboa, Manafwa and Cathedral Avenue Roads.
Kenbert Kaganzi, the cite Engineer of Dott Services said that the project will cost 40b including those of Soroti and Tororo that are pending to be worked upon.
He added that the project will run for 15Months and urged the locals to cooperate.
According to Kaganzi, Mbale will spend 21b, while Tororo and Soroti will get 19b.
Mutwalib Zandya, the Mayor of Mbale City asked the contractors to fasten the work, arguing that he may lose support if the work is not completed in time.
Some residents when interviewed expressed joy saying that accidents were getting numerous along Naboa and Cathedral Avenue roads.
Denis William Tamite, for example, said that KCB bank and the Mbale Central Market have been hard to access.
Meanwhile, Eric Nandala, a businessman in town urged the Engineers to work on the roads very fast. He reasoned that Dott services tried similarly to work on the same roads in 2016, but declined after the general elections.
Meanwhile, the works mean that truck drivers who had originally defied instructions to vacate the said roads will now have to look for alternative areas for parking.
Recently, Mbale City authorities asked truck drivers who have been operating on the affected roads to relocate temporarily to Kumi road Taxi Park as they find resources to purchase land to set up the permanent park.
James Kutosi, the Public Relations Officer Mbale City Council, said they intend to divide the taxi park into two parts to allow the truckers use one of the spaces.
However, taxi drivers under Mbale Taxi Drivers, Conductors and Owners Association said then that they can’t share the park with the trucks
