Bugisu sub region coffee farmers have unanimously given Nathan Nandala Mafabi and his board another four year term to lead Bugisu Cooperative Union.
The BCU members voted for the extra term on Saturday in an annual general meeting (AGM) held at BCU premises in Mbale City.
Farmers unanimously agreed to reinstate the board after its term expired last month, October 2020.
Peter Weduku from Bumayiza primary society said the current board has worked excellently as they expected so they see no reason of changing it.
Emmanuel Sebunyo also farmer under BCU added that he has seen lots of achievements from the current board.
The achievements according to him include; starting BCU radio for farmers, paying farmers their money of coffee in time, and sacking staff who had been embezzling farmers’ money.
FDC’s Nandala Mafabi expressed his joy with the trust farmers put in him and promised to work harder such that coffee price can go back to Shs10, 000 after the price dropped due to covid19 outbreak.
He added that covid19 pandemic affected their exports of coffee because all borders were closed. The slump was also caused by a decline in economies of all countries which consume their coffee.
Frederick Gume Ngobi, the State Minister for Cooperatives urged Bamasaba to sell their coffee to BCU rather than selling it BCU competitors if they are to benefit and grow their union.
He also warned people against involving in crowds during this campaigning time to avoid contracting covid19 because it is there and it kills.
