Asuman Maggwa, the NUP district chairperson who doubles as the Flag bearer for NUP MP Aspirant for Budaka County said police has over reasons best known to themselves kept on cancelling venues.
According to Maggwa, without his consent and written notice to police seeking for permission, police instead cleared NUP to hold its rally at Kabuna primary school, but the community rejected and threatened to demonstrate.
Later police changed the venue to Namirembe day and boarding primary school.
However that venue was equally cancelled this morning and shifted to a remote Nansanga primary school in Nansanga Sub County, a distance of about 5 kilometers away from the central business area.
Asuman said he had initially rejected a proposal by security to hold rallies at educational institutions because of the safety of learners but security rejected his plea and instead dictated on him.
Mr. Samuel Wakooli, the head teacher Namirembe Day and Boarding primary school who had initially accepted to host the rally at his school said he was shocked to realize later that his school was cancelled without notifying him.
Mr. David Silk the headteacher of Nansanga primary school said he had no objection to the wise decision of his bosses but wondered why the security of the learners was not prioritized.
Paul Higenyi, the District Education Officer said it was agreed in principle that the school hosts the rally since its far from the town center.
The DEO added that P.7 candidates will not study tomorrow and that security will take charge of the school property in case of any likely eventuality.
Bob Kagarula, the RPC North Bukedi Said police will not block any Presidential candidate from campaigning so long as he or she adheres to the stipulated EC campaign programmeS and follows covid 19 SOPs.
