Mosquito nets distributors in Bukhofu sub-county in Manafwa district have gone on strike over nonpayment of their allowances.
The distributors yesterday 3rd December in anger locked up Bukhofu Sub County staff inside their offices demanding payment of their allowances that are overdue by two months.
Ministry of health through Manafwa district local government recruited VHTs, LCIs, and data collectors at Sub-county levels to help them in distributing mosquito nets at each home.
According to Stephen Nadai, the VHT from Bumityelo village at Bukhofu sub-county, each person who was involved in the distribution was told to get 110,000/= on his or her mobile money account in one week after the distribution exercise.
He added that surprisingly they are now counting two months without any pay yet they concluded the exercise successfully.
Stephen Wamutayi, the LCI chairperson of Bumufwoto village also says that they have tried to raise their concerns to sub-county leaders but no positive response has been received.
The distributors told thid website that they stormed the Sub County offices to show their anger.
Ronald Kimanayi the LCV vice-chairperson of Manafwa has however, condemned the manner under which the distributors behaved by locking workers inside sub-county offices and paralyzing works at the sub-county.
He said they should have used peaceful means of demanding their money.
Gideon Wamasebu, the Manafwa district health officer when contacted said most of the people who helped them in distributing nets were paid except a few.
He revealed that few who have remained wrote phone numbers of mobile money accounts they registered in different names.
Wamasebu called for calm saying that the ministry is soon going to pay their money after rectifying the problem of names because they don’t want to pay money that goes to another person’s phone.
