The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, His Lordship Joseph Eciru Oliach has reshuffled and transferred some of his top administrators in the Diocese as an a means of improving the smooth operations of the Diocese.
This information was leaked by a source close to the Diocesan hierarchy but preferred anonymity working at the Diocesan Office that sits at Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish adjacent to St. Joseph’s Garage Soroti.
According to the source, Bishop Eciru has relieved his long term Personal Secretary, Rev. Fr. Samuel Okiria who has been his Secretary from his Consecration as Bishop Soroti Catholic Diocese in May 25th 2019. Father Okiria’s next posting is not yet clear.
“Fr. Okiria has been relieved from duty as he awaits his new appointment,” revealed the source.
Fr. Okiria has now been replaced by Rev. Fr. Thomas Omee who has been the assistant Parish Priest Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish Soroti.
Fr. Omee was among the three Priests ordained to Priesthood in 2019.
He was ordained alongside Fr. Patrick Ochela, the current Parish Priest of the new Asamuk Parish and Fr. Julius Oumo current Parish Priest of Gweri Parish.
Fr. Michael Omaria who has been the assistant Coordinator for the Diocesan based NGO, SOCADIDO has been transferred to be assistant Parish Priest Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish assuming the role that Fr. Omee has been holding. Fr. Omaria has been replaced by Fr. Israel Angiro who has been working in Akajikaji Parish.
The Source further intimated that there are other mini transfers and appointment of Priest’s but the above are the major transfers.
Meanwhile, while giving his Homily during the ordination of Rev. Fr. Geoffrey Opio on Tuesday afternoon at St. Augustine’s Parish Mukongoro, Bishop Eciru called upon Christian Faithfuls to support the Construction of the New Soroti Catholic Diocese Cathedral (Regina Ceali).
Bishop Eciru, said the planned cathedral that is expected to accommodate more than 4,000 worshippers requires a total of Shs 8 billion. He therefore urged the Catholic faithfuls to contribute generously towards the project.
“We have not been having a cathedral, let us support its construction to completion because if we fail, then it will be a shame to the church,” Bishop Eciru told the Christians that had gathered to witness the ordination of the new Priest.
He said the diocese has been operating without a cathedral since it was carved out of Tororo Diocese and has been performing the duties and responsibilities of the Cathedral at Immaculate Conception, which is the Urban Parish.
