SOROTI
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Land’s Forces Commander has said that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is aware that his successor will come from Teso.
Maj. Gen. Peter Elwelu made the shocking revelation on Saturday 9th January 2021 while appearing on a local radio station in Soroti City.
Elwelu said President Museveni is aware that next President will be coming from Teso.
Elwelu in his speech said President Museveni is preparing Iteso to take over leadership but people of Teso shouldn’t rush and think that Presidency will be got by fighting the ruling government.
“President Museveni is aware that Iteso need the leadership of this country that’s why he appointed Gen. Jeje Odongo to head Internal Affairs, me (Elwelu) to head Land Forces, my brother Ating from Asuret to deputize Mutebile as Governor Bank of Uganda, we have Gen. Angina in Operation Wealth Creation, my Brother Patrick Ocailap in the treasury and many others. So my fellow Iteso, let’s vote for President Museveni for continued peace and peaceful handover of Power from him to us Iteso,” Elwelu appealed.
He said opposing President Museveni won’t help the region.
Gen. Elwelu also vowed to crush any Ugandan who is planning to cause violence after 14th January 2021 polls saying any person who gets involved will be crushed without fear or favour.
“President Museveni has professionalized the Force and those few elements who want to destabilize this country by beating civilians will pay for their actions. I want also to warn politicians who are planning to cause chaos after elections that we are ready and prepared for you,” warned Elwelu.
Adding that, “Even us security we want to spend time with our families, why do you want us to be in the bush fighting.”
The tough speaking General also warned security officials involved on intimidating and beating of voters to stop or else face arrests.
Gen Elwelu while referring to the biblical teaching in the book of 1 John 1:1 where it reads “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the word of life”, told politicians to seek the Kingdom of God other than earthly treasures.
Gen. Elwelu who also seemed not happy with how Ngora County MP politics is shaping the district and the region at large also promised to meet the two conflicting MP aspirants; Independent’s David Abala and NRM’s Juliet Achayo Lodou to bring harmony in the district.
His comments came after a series of callers asked him to intervene into the Intimidation, arrests and beating of supporters loyal to incumbent and independent David Abala by security whom they claimed are working on orders of Ngora RDC Ambrose Onoria.
In his response, Gen. Elwelu said he is going to cause a night meeting with both camps to bring harmony.
“Am going to tell the RDC to call a meeting with those leaders. There is no need for us to lose our people because of elections. We need each other after elections,” he said.
But the accused RDC Onoria has repeatedly in various interviews distanced himself from allegations that he is involved in Ngora’s politics saying most people do not wish him well in Ngora.
