SOROTI

At least 94 suspects have been remanded until further notice in Soroti grade one magistrate’s court.

The suspects were arrested yesterday 19th January from Kamuda and Asuret Sub County on allegations of post-election violence.

The 94 were yesterday arrested in Soroti District for allegedly protesting the election of the new Soroti County MP, Patrick Aeku.  The locals allege that the results that were announced contradict what came from various polling stations.

On Friday,  Joseph Mukwaya, the Soroti District Returning officer declared Aeku winner for Soroti County MP seat after polling 6,048 votes.

Aeku defeated an independent candidate Samuel Eninu who garnered 6,001 votes and FDCs Daniel Eigu who polled 5,937 votes.

Court did not mention when they will reappear for hearing of their cases.

They appeared before Grade One Magistrate, Silvia Nvannungi who remanded them on ground that the court has no jurisdiction to hear their cases.
