1 Killed, Two Seriously Injured In Post-Election Violence

One person has been confirmed dead while his two other colleagues are nursing serious injuries after being attacked by rival camp supporters.

This happened on Wednesday night 20th January 2021 after the City Mayor, LCV Chairperson and directed elected LCV councilors’ elections.

 

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident saying they have arrested two suspects.

 

He identified the suspects as Nasulu Wabatila 51 and Alex Matango all residents of Nasasa village, Bumboyi Sub County in Mbale district.

 

According to police the suspects attacked Cavin Habale, a 26 years old boda boda rider (deceased) and two others now admitted at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital while they were on their way home in the middle of the night.

 

“It’s said that these three were heading home at night and the other group of supporters from a rival camp attacked them blaming them for not supporting their candidate, this left one dead and two seriously injured,” Taitika said.

 

Taitika further said the two who are not yet identified are currently nursing wounds at the Mbale referral hospital.

 

He said police is continuing with the investigations into the matter.
