DUTY or BRUTALITY? Police Shoot Dead Another Boda Boda Rider For Defying Curfew

Mbale Police is once again on the spotlight after one of their own shot dead a boda boda rider for allegedly defying curfew regulations.

 

Sowed Wamini, a 48-year-old boda boda rider and resident of Magezi cell, Namakwekwe Ward, Northern City Division in Mbale City was killed at 3:00AM Saturday morning.

 

The killer bullet was allegedly fired by police an officer attached to Mbale Central Police Station.

 

Ayubu Fozi, an eyewitness also a boda boda rider said Wamini was shot to death at 3.am by one of the police officers he didn’t identify who were on patrol vehicle.

 

He narrated that, police officers got them at Namakwekewe boda boda stage waiting for clients and started firing at them and one bullet hit Wamini in the stomach leading to his instant death.

 

Consequently a group of boda boda riders stormed CPS complaining of continued harassment.

 

Shakuru Kutosi also a boda boda rider said that they stormed CPS because this was not an isolated incident.

 

Kutosi said there was a related incident last week when one of their colleagues was knocked by a police patrol vehicle at  Busamaga ward in Industrial city division after police trying to chase him on allegations of operating past curfew time.

 

They add that President Museveni should intervene in these killings and extent curfew time such that they can also have peace in their work.

 

However, getting a comment from Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson by press time was futile after not picking our calls.
