SOROTI CITY
Soroti City Authority is set to use over 260 million to renovate dilapidated old structures within the city in a bid to boost service delivery.
The structures include; the renovation of a six classroom block in Pioneer primary school through the funding from DDEG-Education with the contract awarded to M/S Jemo Solutions Limited Kampala at a cost of 97,125,830/=
Others are; completion of a labor suit at Kichinjaji Health Centre III at a cost of 9,292,500/= through funding from DDEG and contract awarded to M/S Inofit Investments Limited Soroti and renovation labor suit and solar extension to Princess Diana Health Centre IV at a cost of 39,244,086/= through funding from DDEG and contracted awarded to M/S Osma General Enterprises Soroti.
Other structures to be renovated include, the renovation of main administrative block at cost of 90,138,020/= which was a presidential pledge and the contract has been awarded to M/S Inofit Investments Limited Soroti and the re-roofing of OPD block and toilet works at Princess Diana Health Centre IV at a cost of 32,656,323/=.
Paul Omer, the Soroti City interim Mayor told this website yesterday 9th february 2021 that the council took a decision to renovate old structures in the city in order to boost service delivery.
He said, like in Pioneer Primary school, the school was built in the 1980s by the Asians and has been faced with shortage of teachers’ houses, dilapidated structures and sanitation facilities.
He added that pupils have always been left stranded during the rainy season because the old structures leak.
A section of Soroti City residents have welcomed the move by the city authorities saying the structures in the mentioned facilities have been wanting.
Mary Alupo, a resident of Kichinjaji ward said, the labor suit at Kichinjaji Health Centre III has been in a very sorry state and the initiative by the council to renovate the labor suit is welcome.
Jessica Leah Akello of Otucopi trading Centre also appreciated the city leadership for earmarking the renovation of the labor suit and solar extension to Princess Diana Health Centre IV saying thieves have been stealing the health facilities’ equipment mostly when power is off.
