Hon.-David Abala has had his initial victory overturned by EC

The independent Electoral Commission of Uganda has officially declared and gazetted Juliet Achayo Lodou Ekellot as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ngora County one month after Ngora District Returning Officer announced David Abala as Ngora County MP.

On the 15th of January Peter Toddu, the Ngora District returning officer declared independent Abala as MP Ngora County with 8,317 votes against his closest rival, Juliet Achayo Lodou who polled 7,828 votes.

The results declared by Toddu were from 54 polling stations out of the 65 across the county. This however did not go well with Achayo who ran to Soroti Chief Magistrate Court to file an election petition asking for a vote recount and inclusion of her votes from 11 polling stations that were not included during the 15th January Declaration of results.

But the Soroti Chief Magistrate, Her Worship Monicah Amuno dismissed the case on grounds of lack of evidence.

However this website has established that the Independent Electoral Commission of Uganda has declared and gazetted Juliet Achayo as the New Ngora county MP overturning the declaration of Peter Toddu.

The results seen by this website after yesterday’s 11th February 2021 EC closed meeting at Kampala indicate that; Juliet Achayo Lodou (NRM) polled 9,517, David Abala (Independent) 9,226, Francis Epetait (FDC) 395, Patrick Ongodia (Independent) 386; Isaac Olupot (Independent) 76 and Silver Ariku (NUP) 55 votes.

When contacted for a comment, Mr. Paul Bukenya, the Electoral Commission acting Spokesperson said, the Commission has declared Achayo as winner after inclusion of the results from 11 polling stations.

“The Commission sat yesterday and the decision to announce and gazette Achayo was reached after the results of 11 polling stations were computed. She is the right winner for Ngora County,” said Bukenya.

He further added that the Commission is already in the process of gazetting Achayo as newly elected MP.
