Police and Local Defense Units (LDU) have shot dead three Karamojong cattle rustlers and recovered eight 8 cows.
According to Peter Otisipaka, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bulambuli district, the rustlers were caught by security stealing animals from Bunambutye and Bumufuni Sub County yesterday 18th February 19, 2021.
He adds that this follows complaints that have been raised by locals to his office about cattle theft, attacks, and killings of locals by Karamojong warriors.
Ositipaka revealed that the continuous attacks forced him to coordinate with DPC in deploying police and LDU patrols. He said it is the joint patrols that killed the three and recovered eight stolen animals that have already been given back to the owners.
The RDC however urged locals to be security cautious by reporting any unknown person to local authority or police.
Joshua Gidudu and Patrick Matsanga both residents of Bulambuli district told this reporter that since elections ended theft of animals in the district has increased to due to relaxation of police curfew patrols.
