Mbale City Woman member of Parliament elect, Hon. Connie Galiwango has urged especially the Single and Teenage mothers to appreciate International Women’s Day.
While speaking to this reporter this morning 8th March 2021, Galiwango pleaded with women to change their mindsets and stop focusing on unproductive issues.
Galiwango said most of the mothers today don’t take Women’s Day as important because they think they are left behind.
“Our mothers, especially the single mothers feel they are left behind,” Galiwango said.
She however appreciated the state of most single mothers saying they carry the brunt of playing both roles of a father and mother while raising children abandoned to them.
“These single and Teenage mothers are the most vulnerable and therefore deliberate projects should be established to help them. Such projects can be skilling programs to equip them earn for themselves’ Galiwango said.
“This is my personal dream, after my swearing in in May, I want to come back and put in place projects targeting these single and teenage mothers,” Galiwango added.
She also advised mothers to join SACCOS and do art and craft work and agricultural projects that will help them uplift their standards of living and the environment that they stay in.
Finally Galiwango urged government to setup Women SACCOs in every district to help women access cheap loans instead of borrowing money from Commercial Banks.
