MBALE
The Astra Zenaca vaccination has been launched in Mbale District albeit with majority of Health Workers refusing to take the jab.
The launch that was presided over by Mbale Resident City Commissioner, Pamela Watuwa yesterday 16th March 2021 at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital saw many health personnel dodging to take the jab.
The RCC however, showed the way when she became the first official to be vaccinated.
Watuwa also warned propagandists who are circulating information that the vaccine is not safe for pregnant mothers and people with underlying health complications such as diabetes and pressure.
“When we catch up with such people, the law will take its course,” Watuwa warned.
The District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Jonathan Wangisi said the district had received only 36 doses to be given to leaders as an example to others.
Dr. Wangisi also appealed to the public not to fear the vaccine arguing that it had been tested thrice and approved by the Uganda Virus Institute.
This reporter however did not see any health worker taking the jab including the District Health Officer. Most health workers were seen escaping from the launch grounds.
Others that took the vaccine after Pamela Watuwa are the interim Mbale City Mayor, Zandya Mutwalib and Mbale District LCV Chairman, Bernard Mujjasi.
Yesterday President Museveni is quoted by NTV as saying he had not yet taken the jab because he is well protected. He also said that he was yet to decide on which vaccine to take.
