MBALE
Residents of Bukhanakwa village, Busona Sub County in Mbale district have used stones to block a road they say is making their life difficult.
The irate residents yesterday 31st March 2021 blocked and planted banana suckers on Bukhanakwa road paralyzing traffic.
Samuel Wanda, one of the locals says that the road is full of pot holes whereby they face challenges of transporting their agricultural products like cabbage, bananas among others to Mbale town for sale.
He adds that they have tried to inform the district leadership for now three years but no response prompting them to protest.
Sarah Nambotso, also from the same area says that in this year alone, two expectant mothers have died after residents failed to carry them on their heads to Mbale referral hospital as the only solution since the road is impassable.
Peter Wandulu, the LCI chairperson of the Bukhanakwa village says that locals are ready to give their land for free without compensation during road rehabilitation.
However, efforts to get a comment from Mbale district engineer were futile by press time because he did not pick this reporter’s repeated calls.
