Over 70 Local Council Chairpersons in Amuria district have been denied stamps for failing to wear facemasks.

This is after several of the LC1 and LCII chairpersons turned up today 22nd April 2021 to receive their official stamps while not wearing facemasks.

In Ogolai Sub County, only three out of the 39 LCs turned up to receive stamps while wearing facemasks.

While in Kuju, only two turned up for the meeting while wearing facemasks.

Wearing of facemasks, hand washing, social distancing among others are some of the Standard Operation Procedures set by the Ministry of Health to mitigate further spread of the deadly covid-19.

According to Eyal Lillian, the RDC Amuria, it was surprising to see LCs turning up for the meeting without wearing face masks yet they are chairpersons of Covid-19 taskforces in their localities who should live by example.

She added that government recently distributed face masks in the district and most of the LCs were beneficiaries.

“Why would LCs who should live by example in the fight against Covid-19 come to a public gathering like this one without wearing facemasks?” Eyal asked.

Some of the LCsthis reporter spoke to said they forgot the facemasks at home.

Christopher Okiring, the Communication Officer Amuria district however said the affected LCs will pick their stamps at the district while observing SOPs including wearing facemasks.
