The latest results released by the Ministry of Health today 3rd June, 2021 show that the infection rate of the new variant is growing by the day.
Results released yesterday for tests carried out on 31st May, 2021 had shown the Test Positivity Rate at 16.2%, however today’s figures put the Test Positivity rate at 17.2%.
Out of the 6,283 Alert and Contact cases tested on Tuesday, 1st June, 2021, 1,083 new cases were confirmed taking the cumulative confirmed cases to 49,759. One more death was registered bringing the total of those who have succumbed to this virus to 365.
Kampala still leads the pack with 832 cases followed by Wakiso with 101. This pattern confirms what President Museveni said that Kampala and Wakiso are the epicenters of the second wave and should be avoided by the public.
Other districts closely following the epicenter districts of Kampala and Wakiso are; Lira (22) Luwero (20) Masaka (20) Tororo (19) Mbarara (14) and Busia (11).
Others are; Gulu (7) Yumbe (3) Mukono (2) Rukungiri (2) Nakaseke (2) Kabale (2) Jinja (2) Mbale (3) Adjumani (1) Kikuube (1) Kibuku (1) Kabarole (1) Amuru (2) Kiryandongo (1) Lamwo (1) Pader (2) Bugiri (1) and Kyotera (1).
9 Truck Drivers also tested positive; 8 at Mutukula Point of Entry and 1 from Elegu Point of Entry.
As a result of the surging numbers, Active cases on admission at various health facilities has also grown to 522.
Meanwhile, a video posted by the Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Emmanuel Ainebyoona show many Ambulances queuing to drop off critically ill Covid-19 patients.
“The situation at Mulago Hospital as ambulances queue to drop off COVID-19 patients. May the lord protect us as we do whatever we can to protect ourselves,” Ainebyoona commented.
President Museveni has also used his Martyrs’ Day message to remind Ugandans of the pandemic.
“Today, as we remember and celebrate the martyrs for their display of Courage, Boldness, and Unshaken Determination to stand up for their Faith even in the face of Persecution and Death, may we call upon God to intervene for solutions that can change the COVID-19 story.” Museveni tweeted.
The President ended by saying, “We, however, should not faint, like those without Hope, but be steadfast at whatever we do. We cannot stand still and lament. Observe Covid 19 Guidelines put in place, be informed, and avoid Social Media Sensationalism about the Corona Pandemic and the Vaccines.”
