ULTIMATUM! Minister Nandutu Gives Karamojong Warriors 100 Days to Surrender Guns

The State Minister for Karamoja Affairs has given Karamoja Cattle rustlers to voluntarily hand over their guns within 100 days or be arrested.

Agnes Nandutu sounded the warning on Wednesday while revealing that Government through the Office of the Prime Minister- DINU project is set to commence construction of police barracks at the 3 border points in Karamoja following complaints on Porous borders which has led to increased smuggling of guns and insecurity in the Sub- Region.

Hon. Agnes Nandutu said this during her visit to Nabilatuk District.

It follows complaints by the community in Karamoja over the infiltration of guns in the Sub-region which has led to increased cattle raids in the recent months.

According to the Hon Minister, construction is set to commence next week.

The State minister for Karamoja affairs requested the Members of Parliament to monitor the project to avoid shoddy works.

Karamoja is bordered by South Sudan and Kenya and this has affected the disarmament process. The border points are in Amudat district,Moroto bordering Kenya and Karenga bordering S.Sudan.

Meanwhile the Member of Parliament for Pian County Hon Achia Remigio requested the government to allocate a special budget for disarmament to ensure it is a success.

Hon. Nandutu assured the various stakeholders that a budget had been allocated awaiting approval.

She reminded those with arms to surrender their guns voluntarily within 100 days or else face arrest.

Hon Nandutu promised to skill those who surrender their guns so as to improve their livelihood.
