Soroti Regional Referral Hospital covid-19 treatment center now has the highest number of Covid-19 patients in the country with an average admission rate of 5 patients a day.
This was revealed by Dr. Wilson Etolu the consultant physician and in charge covid19 treatment in the region while receiving a donation of 40 oxygen cylinders and 40 regulators from Absa Bank Uganda today 19th August 2021.
He said currently the facility has 75 patients in the treatment unit while others with mild symptoms are under home base care. A bigger number compared to Mulago with only 36 patients.
Dr. Etolu noted that most of the patients come from other regions within the country.
“It’s fairly strange, because most of the facilities in Uganda now have very low numbers yet we continue to have high numbers and they are mostly old people above 60 years and they come when they are very sick” he said.
He appreciated Absa Bank for the donation asking other partners also to borrow a leaf from the Bank given the fact that Soroti still continues to receive patients who demand oxygen.
He also urged the public to make sure that the old people who feel unwell are immediately taken to the hospital for checkup.
Meanwhile, the Resident City Commissioner, Robert Adyama commended the facility for the good reputation it has built that has now attracted attention of partners from all corners.
“People now take Soroti regional referral hospital as an alternative national referral hospital because of the good work by these health workers,” he said.
In related news, Soroti received the covid19 vaccines on Monday and by yesterday the 18th Aug 2021, 400 people had received the Jab. The district received 2000 doses, Serere 1500 and Dr. Etolu confirms that all districts in Teso received the vaccines.
