SOROTI CITY
Soroti district local government has distanced itself from being involved in the Emyooga fraud.
This follows a scenario where one Moses Okiring is alleged to have connived with the District Commercial Officer, Madam Joy Apolot to swindle money to a tune of 49 million shillings from different savings SACCOS in Soroti.
According to Abraham Ekwaru, the Communications Officer Soroti district, the District Commercial Officer didn’t involve herself in any sort of fraud as perpetrated and circulated in the media houses and social media platforms.
He says that the alleged fraudster, Moses Okiring admitted having used his own knowledge to get the money alone without the involvement of the commercial officer as alleged.
It’s alleged that Okiring stole shillings 7,400,000/= from Gweri county women entrepreneurs SACCO, shillings 28,000,000/= from Gweri Taxi Operators SACCO, shillings 17,000,000 from Gweri Boda-boda Operators SACCO and Belet Association under Gweri County Women Entrepreneurs SACCO 14,000,000/=.
It’s further alleged that, between May 2021 and July 2021, Okiror held various positions in the above SACCOs, later enabling him to forge signatures to acquire photocopies of the national identifications of account signatories.
Meanwhile, Ekwaru commended the Soroti Resident City commissioner and the other security officers for their efforts in arresting the suspect.
