The Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) on 22nd Oct, 2021 donated food to all its players and team in their office located in Oderai, Soroti City West.
Tembo Arnold, the Operations Manager Soroti Cricket academy said the donation is a second batch from one of their partners called FAMMI (feed a million mouths Uganda).
He revealed that FAMMI came into partnership with them in 2019 and promised to feed the academy players and their households as a way of keeping them strong.
“We received about 2.4 tonnes of soya flour that’s mixed with other body building Ingredients aimed at feeding 5,000 households. Each player gets about 10kgs of soya that will help sustain them during this pandemic, we appreciate FAMMI for the donation,” he added.
The excited kids who were accompanied by their parents to get their soya flour couldn’t hide their joy.
Barbra Asekenye, a proud parent of nine year old boy playing cricket said that it has always been her kid’s dream to play cricket and appreciates SCA for the support.
” I was worried for always seeing my daughter idle at home doing nothing as schools are closed but after she joined cricket, she has been busy and for today’s support too, I am so happy” Arikot Betty one of the parents said.
Nandera Immaculate, one of the cricket team players testified that through cricket, she has benefited a lot through financing her education and adventure and called upon parents to allow their children join the game as its good for them.
Meanwhile, Ivan Kakande, the head coach said that they have prepared a team of fourteen players who will be participating in the 120 women’s tournament organized by their partners, Uganda Cricket Association scheduled for this weekend in Kampala where six teams will be participating.
“We are proud to be participating and we have two teams, Soroti Challengers Cricket Club and Soroti Select 11 consisting of seven players and we strongly believe that with the training and confidence we have, we shall bring the trophy home,” he added.
