In a statement released on 25th October 2021, Police Mouth Piece, Fred Enanga names the suspects as; No. 51582 D/C Kanywasi Dan, Mutebi Martin, Talemwa Asafu, Waswa Samuel, Muto Richard, Wajabu Jackson, Kasolo Asuman, Nsubuga Ivan, Ssebugwawo Jimmy, Balilonda Emmanuel, Lugango Julius, Miyingo Joseph, Wejjuli Hilary and Ssentongo Henry.
Enanga said the suspects will be charged with various offences including alleged murder, malicious damage and theft of car parts.
“We wish to inform the public that after a thorough review of the violent road rage incident caught on video and CCTV, involving a group of bodaboda riders who caused disorders on the road, chased and brutally murdered Aziz Bashir, 40, the police at KMP has so far made 14 arrests of suspects linked to the senseless murder.” Enanga said in the statement.
Enanga said further that efforts are in place to track down more suspects including the initial bodaboda rider who brushed the victim’s car, those who gave him a chase, and those who subdued and stoned him to death.
It is alleged that Aziz Bashir was on Sunday 17th October 27, 2021 involved in a minor accident with an unidentified boda boda rider who scratched his car, a Toyota Allex.
“He got out of the vehicle, but failed to agree with the motorcycle rider. It is from there that two motorcycles shielded the rider, who was involved in a traffic accident with Bashir. The rider left the scene but as the deceased pursued the alleged rider, he knocked another motorcyclist,” Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said.
According to police, Bashir was intercepted by a group of boda boda riders as he was approaching Lyna Primary School, pulled him out of the car and beat him to death.
