Chelsea are represented in the final three nominations for both The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper awards.
Edouard Mendy is in the running for the men’s honour with Ann-Katrin Berger on the shortlist for the women’s.
The other nominees for the awards are:
Men – Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy/AC Milan/Paris Saint-Germain)
Manuel Neuer (Germany/Bayern Munich).
Women – Christiane Endler (Chile/Paris Saint-Germain/Olympique Lyonnais)
Stephanie Lynn Marie Labbe (Canada/FC Rosengard/Paris Saint-Germain)
The awards are part of a series of The Best FIFA Football Awards with the 2021 winners to be crowned on 17 January during a TV show broadcast live from FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
The awards given to the outstanding goalkeeper in women’s and men’s football are voted for by an international jury respectively comprising the current coaches of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), the current captains of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team and fans registered on FIFA.com.
Mendy’s presence in the three-player shortlist results from his outstanding start to his Chelsea career with winning the Champions League in Porto a clear highlight. The Ballon d’Or voters recently ranked him in second place for the 2021 Yashin Trophy, their award especially for goalkeepers. He is currently away representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ann-Katrin Berger has been a mainstay of the Chelsea Women’s side that swept up honours to secure a domestic quadruple and, with brilliant performances from her along the way, reached the Women’s Champions League final for the first time in our history. She won the WSL Golden Glove award for 2020/21 and across her Chelsea career has a clean sheet ratio greater than 50 per cent.
Nominations for best coaches and best players overall are to follow later in the week.
