Government has said booster doses against the deadly Covid-19 virus will be given beginning February with 10 categories first.
This was revealed by the Minister of Health, Ruth Aceng this morning 7th January 2022 in a national address delivered at Uganda Media Center.
Aceng named the 10 categories as;
- Elderly aged 50 years and above
- Security personnel
III. Health workers·
- Teachers both in pre-primary, primary, secondary and post-secondary institutions
- Boda boda riders
- Drivers and conductors of all Passenger Services Vehicles (PSVs)
VII. Bar and night club workers
VIII. Market workers and vendors
- Religious leaders
- Media
“We shall start giving booster doses to those who are ready to receive beginning February 2022. The elderly aged 50 years and above have already started receiving their booster doses,” Aceng said.
The Minister however said that following the directive of H.E the President, the Ministry of Health will administer booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the following priority populations:
“We shall begin with Health workers, Teachers and the Security Forces now, while the rest will start at the end of March 2022.” She said.
She said the aforementioned groups of people were recommended for booster doses due to their high level of contact with the other members of the public during their day-to-day activities.
The recommended groups are eligible for booster if they completed their primary vaccine series at least 6 months ago.
On January 4th 2022, President Museveni took a booster jab and encouraged all those above 50 years to do the same.
“I have taken my Covid-19 vaccination booster dose. Again, I encourage everyone above the age of 50 to do the same.” President Museveni subsequently tweeted.
