The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Chairperson Mbale has ordered for the arrest and impounding of all the party motorcycles being used as boda bodas.
Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo also the Industrial City Division Mayor in Mbale City who was addressing boda boda leaders in Mbale City yesterday, 1st February 2, 2022 said it had come to his attention that some NRM Sub County Chairpersons were using the NRM Bikes as boda bodas.
Masaba who was addressing the boda boda leaders in preparation of the Tarehe Sita celebrations due on Sunday 6 February 2022 at Maluku grounds ordered the leaders to arrest and impound NRM bikes found being used in the boda boda business.
“Whoever comes across any of the NRM motorcycles performing boda boda riding, should arrest the rider and the motorcycle and immediately call me, I will deal with them because I did not give them the log books,” Masaba said.
Masaba emphasized discipline amongst the boda boda riders saying they should stop arresting and impounding bikes belonging to riders who are new in the City.
He said City boda boda riders have a tendency of arresting their colleagues from different districts in Bugisu and force them to pay huge amount of money which he said is not acceptable.
Masaba says every boda boda rider from different Bugisu district has a right to enjoy Mbale City because it belongs them. He also urged them to get good and gazetted stages, vacate streets and stop parking on the roadsides.
The NRM motorcycles were given to local council three chairpersons to mobilize votes for President in the last elections.
Pahani Denis, the Industrial Division Police Commander urged the boda boda riders to work with him and fight the increased theft of motorcycles in the Industrial City.
He advised them to start creating small Saccos at their different stages so that they can benefit from the ruling government.
“You can only benefit from the ruling party when you are organized,” Puhani said.
Meanwhile Hussein Wetaka, the overall boda boda chairperson in Mbale City concurred with Masaba that it was indeed wrong to arrest other boda boda riders from other Bugisu districts.
