A man identified as Richard Sande Emolot is now nursing grave injuries he incurred from an angry mob at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital after he hacked to death his sister in-law.

Emolot yesterday 14th February, 2022 at Angorom South Village, Aputir parish, Morukatipe Sub County in Tororo district killed Elizabeth Alinga using a sharp panga.

Alinga was a wife to Gerald Obarasa, Emolot’s brother with whom the suspect has had a long land dispute.

According to Osabiti Joseph an eye witness, Emolot had been having an outstanding land dispute with his brother, the husband to the deceased. Osabiti says that the deceased met her death when she went to pick firewood from the disputed piece of land.

He said while she was picking firewood, the murder suspect ran with a sharp panga and started cutting her.

He reportedly cut Obarasa who had also rushed to rescue his wife from the aggressive murderer but his efforts were all in vain because he arrived late.

The land in contention belonged to their late brother Erineyo Ebbu and both of them had been assigned to care take.

MOB IN ACTION

An alarm raised by the deceased and husband attracted residents who responded by descending on Emolot who was only rescued by police.

Later, the deceased and murder suspect were rushed to Tororo General Hospital. The deceased died on arrival. The mob on learning that the deceased had passed on stormed the hospital where they wanted to finish Emolot as well.

However the police managed to contain the situation and ordered the angry relatives of the deceased to go back to their homes.

The district police commander Tororo, Rodgers Chebene confirmed that the suspect was whisked and referred to Mbale regional hospital where he was rushed in critical condition for specialized medical attention.

He said the suspect had also been seriously cut and that his chances of survival are very minimal especially if not handled well.

He said the suspect is facing charges of murder and that an inquiry on the murder had been initiated.

Available records indicate that both the clan and village council courts severally handled the dispute but the suspect always promised to shed blood.

Paul Eredet one of the area leaders condemned the act and appealed to the police to handle the case with a lot of care.
