Hon. Anita Among has today 25th March, 2022 won the election of Speaker of Parliament with a landslide victory.
Anita who has been Deputy Speaker trounced her only Challenger, Opposition’s Asuman Basalirwa who only managed to get 56 votes.
Anita garnered 401 votes to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah who passed on in Seattle, USA.
Anita’s win also puts to doubt the unity of opposition in Parliament. 56 votes is about half the number of opposition MPs in the 11th Parliament.
There was one invalid vote.
