How Multiparty Politics of Tribalism Has Undermined Mourning of Our Great Men

OPINION
Last week, the country experienced a great loss of the service delivery oriented intelligent leader of the 11th Parliament, Rt. Hon. Speaker Jacob Olanyah whose demise happened in Seattle in US.
Those who have either worked with him, faced him or watched the Parliamentary proceedings attest to his true legal brains and consciousness in handling this country which has multiparty politics accompanied by politics of hate and tribalism, where self-centeredness has dominated service delivery.
Indeed it’s that politics which has been omnipresent since the hey days of the election of the Speaker of Parliament way back last year, it started with him and it has ended with him in summary. Rest In Peace Rt. Hon. Speaker. His sickness was popularized by some dissenting opinions of the opposition particularly NUP stage managed demonstration in US urging the US government not to treat him. Whether it’s true or false, that’s a topic for another day.
The most important thing is that the country led by the three arms of government conducted the election of the speakership amidst backlash, condemnation and tribalistic models in a country whose ethnic background is 76.
Which way for Uganda right now, who is the proprietor and beneficiary for this? Why is the head of the clan silent about it? Tribalism is connected to Multi-Party Politics of our country, Ugandan politicians have now developed a model of tribalism and hate messaging to rally behind the support of their electorates to win big in Kampala, why should the few people who detect loss of something mention about tribalism as a way of advocacy to win?
In just a period of not less than 365 days, tribalism and filling of public positions have been mentioned three times, Rest In Peace are the Late Paul Lockech former Deputy AIGP, Late Mutebile former governor bank of Uganda, and currently the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, all the three positions have seen people attempt to ring fence them. Why would mourning the death of a distinguished serviceman of the country be undermined by politics of tribalism? The country is losing its motto and National Anthem.
Just as the country was preparing to elect the Speaker of Parliament to replace the former, the northern part of the country vowed to boycott, only God knows where this would have left the rest of the population which are not tribalistic but are interested in better leadership to usher in service delivery.
Farewell Lt. Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament Jacob Olanyah
