MBALE CITY

Mbale city council has today, 4th April, 2022 suspended the street parking fee collection following a fight between two rival tenderers.

This was declared by James Kutosi, the Mbale city spokesperson while dressing the media this evening at Mbale city offices.

Background

Last January, Mbale city council awarded the tender of street fee parking collection to Nalu tour and travel investment to take over from the Central investment agency.

However, since January this year, Central investment agency tenderer has refused to leave the collection work to Nalu tour and travel investment  claiming that the tender was awarded to the latter illegally.

After Mbale city by force asking Nalu tour and travel investment  to assume work, this evening a group of youths armed with pangs, stones, bricks, hoes and sticks hired by the Central investment agency  attacked workers of Nalu tour and travel investment but they were dispersed by police.

According to James Kutosi, the City Council refused to renew the contract of Central investment Agency because it failed to remit to Council the agreed amount of money.

He adds that Council later gave the contract o Central investment agency which was the highest bidder legally.

He adds that from today they have ordered the suspension of tax collection on roads until the prevailing circumstances are sorted.

Robert Kamya, the managing director of Nalu tour and travel investment expressed his happiness with the suspension saying that they are now going to settle their matters.
