The Resident District Commissioner of Bulambuli district, Stanley Batola has warned farmers against selling improved mango seedlings that have been donated to them.

He revealed this while launching the distribution of 5000 improved mango seedlings at the district head offices yesterday 26th April 2022.

The seedlings were bought by government under NAADS program to be given to farmers of Bulambuli living in the lower belt.

According to Bayola, it’s going to be bad for beneficiaries to sell the seedlings but encouraged them to plant then sell the fruits to improve on their household incomes.

He warned that they are going to arrest any farmer found selling the seedlings or leaving them to dry.

Kundu Wangusa, the Wealth Creation Officer of Bulambuli County revealed that government spent Shs15million to buy the seedlings.

He added that since the seedlings are an improved variety, they expect farmers to harvest mangoes in the coming one year.

Annet Nandudu, the LCV chairperson of Bulambuli also urged government to set up a juice factory in Bugisu such that such farmers can benefit in future.

She adds that seedlings have been given to only farmers at lower Bulambuli since the upper side is too cold with climatic conditions that are unfavorable for fruit growing.

Sam Wanda and Kakai Mary Nekesa, both beneficiaries expressed joy with the donation saying it is going to help them in boosting their household incomes.
