MBALE CITY

The new Contractor contracted to start street parking fees collection today 16th May 2022 have failed to start work as employees of the former contractor were in all streets.

Nalu Travel and Tour Limited Company sent its employees to the streets only to find workers of Central Investment ( a company whose contract was cancelled) already deployed.

Mbale City authorities are now blaming Uganda Police for failing to enforce their directive to have workers of Central Investment off the streets.

Last week, Mbale city officially handed over the work of street parking collection fee to Nalu travel and tour limited company after cancelling the contract of central investment for failing to remit money to city council account as agreed for the last three years in its operation.

According to James Kutosi, the Public Relations Officer Of Mbale City, Nalu travel and tour limited is supposed to start their work today but have failed because workers of Central investment were still operating at all streets. He says they even chased and beat staff members of Nalu travel and tour.

Robert Luzy Kamya, the managing director of Nalu travel and Tour Company says that one of their staff known as Ivan Nabulwa was seriously beaten while other staff members were chased by workers of central investment.

He adds that they have already reported the matter to police and are planning to take Mbale city council to court for failing to stop Central investment from operating yet they were officially given the contract last month.

Kutosi accused police of failing to push central investment workers off the streets yet they are operating illegally and saying they notified them last week.

He blamed police for failing to implement Mbale city directives but instead continue serving interests of some few politicians in the city who have their own personal interests.

However, Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson has refutes claims of serving the interests of politicians at Mbale city. On the issue of the worker of Nalu travel and Tour Company who was beaten, he said police will follow up since the matter has been reported to police.

He adds that they are going to start investigating the matter before coming up with an official statement.
