SOROTI CITY

Police together with security at Soroti regional referral hospital have arrested two people impersonating Medics.

The two who were arrested yesterday 16th May, 2022 are a 32 year old man identified as Moses Tamale Sonko and a 32 year old Betty Alungat. The duo was allegedly moving around at the facility impersonating medics.

The duo was taking advantage of the industrial action by Allied Health Professionals that paralyzed operation of the health facility by calling patients out of the facility in the name of offering similar medical services.

Bezy Moya, the Principal Hospital Administrator, Soroti Regional Referral hospital said that the duo claimed they hail from Amuria District. He said the duo was handed over to Soroti Central police station.

Moya appealed to the community and patients who go to the facility to be vigilant on the kind of people they interact with claiming they are medics without uniforms and name tags.

“Our patients in the hospital should be very careful with whoever is not in uniform, well tagged with name claiming they work as medics here because in this situation when the Allied health workers are on strike, some criminals may want to take advantage,” he said.

It should be noted that a similar scenario happened at Soroti regional referral hospital in 2021 when the police arrested a man identified as Denis Echiku, a resident of Katine Sub County for masquerading as a medic at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.
