The Electoral Commission has appointed July 7, 2022 as the polling date for the election of five members of the Village Women Committees.

This was revealed by the Commission’s Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama in a media briefing today, 1st June 2022.

“The election of members of the Village Women Committees shall be by the electorate lining up behind the nominated candidates, representatives, portraits or symbols,” Byabakama said.

According to the Commission, nomination of candidates shall be from June 27, 2022 to July 1, 2022.

No academic qualifications shall be required, furthermore, no nomination fee shall be required.” Byabakama said.

“The conduct of Women Councils/Committees Elections are progressive in nature starting at Village and ending at National level. This means that for one to be elected at National level, she should have been successfully elected right from village level,” Byabakama explained.

Public officers who wish to participate in Women Councils and Committees Elections shall be expected to resign before seeking nomination as Candidates.

“The Commission urges all eligible women to turn up in high numbers and exercise their right to elect leaders of their choice at the above elective levels,” Byabakama said.
