Retired Colonel, Dr. Kizza Besigye is a name that calls for no introduction, nor is his toughness in question. He has swallowed teargas, red pepper spray, gone to jail countless times, but still soldiers on.

Kizza Besigye was bailed out yesterday after spending close to two weeks in Luzira and he still afforded smiles here and there.

However, beneath the smiles, the retired Colonel was shedding tears, and tears not for the physical torture but for his favorite shirt.

In a tweet, Besigye who was accusing police of brutality was mourning the tearing of his shirt more.

“The saddest part of today’s brutal manhandling at the Central Police Stn (CPS) was the tearing of my beloved hood! It’ll be off for repair tomorrow morning and will remain at the front till I get fresh supply!” The activist said.

This writer went a step further and tried to find out what is special about this shirt.

The first discovery is that Besigye’s favorite shirt is ‘Ditch Plains’ Brand. These are Men’s Casual Long Sleeve Plaid Button Up Hooded Shirts manufactured in New York USA.

The name Ditch Plains was got from Ditch Plains- Mecca Surf Beach located in Long Island’s Montauk on the Atlantic Coast.
