BUTALEJA

The Bishop of Bukedi Diocese has asked the archdiocese to consider granting the Bukedi region another diocese.

Bishop Samuel Egesa revealed this yesterday, 12th June, 2022 while ordaining 35 deacons at St Stephen church of Uganda under Bunyole archdeaconry in Butaleja district.

The ordained deacons were from Bukedi Diocese and had successfully finished their four year training in theological certificate course at African Bible University in Kampala.

According to Egesa, Bukedi diocese has 55 parishes and covers two regions: South Bukedi which has districts like Butaleja , Busia and Tororo and North Bukedi region with Butebo, Budaka, Palisa and Kibuku districts.

He argued that it becomes hard for the Bishop to move to all churches and parishes under the diocese in one year which has complicated their administrative work.

Egesa also says that if granted North Bukedi diocese it will help them to carry their administrative work and extend services near to Christians.

Sam Wairagala, the Assistant Archdeacon working with Bukedi diocese revealed that they have already submitted their request in writing to the office of the archbishop so that they can be considered before the end of this year.

Emanuel Etaka, one of the deacons who was ordained, expressed his happiness and says it’s God who helped him to reach where he is now and promised to serve him.
