Following the outbreak of cattle cross border theft in Namisindwa district, authorities from three sub counties neighbouring Kenya have formed security committees to curb the problem.

Cattle theft is on the rise in the Sub counties of Bumbo Town Council, Bukiabi, Bukokho, Lwakhakha Town Council where thieves steal animals and give them to their counterparts in Kenya.

According to Nicolas Soita, the LCIII chairperson of Bukiabi Sub County, the LCI chairpersons from different villages have organised a security group of ten to twenty youths who are going to patrol their villages during night time.

He adds that those youths with the help of LDUs are going to arrest anybody who will be found moving with animals without official documents.

Joseph Kamuli, the LCIII chairperson of Bumbo town council says that so far he has registered over ten cattle theft cases in the area.

He adds that although the authorities have banned the movement of animals and its products following the outbreak of Anthrax, people steal animals and take them to Kenya.

Kamuli urged the public to  be security alert and report any new suspected people in the area to local leaders such that they can be arrested and prosecuted.
