MBALE CITY
The organizers of Elgon Festival, 2022 have come out to defend the bare chested parade of young girls in the Saturday’s Festivities held in Mbale City.
Priscilla Mungoma, the lead organizer in a press statement issued yesterday, 14th June 2022 said what happened is only a reflection of the Bamasaba culture.
On Saturday, 11th June, 2022, the public was left aghast when young girls with breasts out we’re paraded through the Mbale City streets in a mock Kadodi dance.
This created an uproar in social media with many accusing the organizers of promoting immorality.
In response, the Mbale City Resident Commissioner, Ahmed Washakie blamed the organizers saying he never expected nudity in the show.
Mungoma however, says whereas she is apologetic to the public, Inzu ya Masaba has been parading bare chested women in it’s cultural functions.
“Why should people complain now yet this very thing has been happening in the descent festivals that I have organized under Inzu ya Masaba?”Mungoma asked.
“Maybe it is because I didn’t involve Inzu ya Masaba this time, that is why the reaction is negative,” Mungoma added.
Mungoma is also attributing the uproar to the fact that she used younger girls this time because before she was using older women.
“Just imagine even President Museveni attended those functions where women we’re paraded bare-chested and there were no complaints. The public just needs to understand that, it is our culture.” Mungoma said.
