The Rt. Hon. Speaker of the 11th, Parliament, Anet Among Anita also Woman Member of Parliament Bukedea has commenced disbursing funds to empower village saving groups in Bukedea.
The disbursement commenced last Friday and ended yesterday, 21st, June 2022 in Kolir Sub County as one of the pioneer sub counties in Bukedea district.
The disbursement took place after a two day training of trainees spearheaded by the Resident District Commissioner Bukedea, Hajji Imran Muluga. The training was on basic concepts of financial management sponsored by the Speaker, Anet Among Anita.
Siporah Akol, Anita’s political assistant Bukedea confirmed the initiative to this website saying a total of 128 groups so far have benefited and each group received a total of five million shillings.
“When you calculate five million each group received, multiply by 128 groups around Shs640.000.000 is given to the beneficiaries,” said Ms. Akol.
Akol also added that the initiative will roll out to the entire sub counties after realizing the positive impact on the pioneer Kolir Mother Sub County.
“As of now we are in the mother Kolir sub county whereby Kolir has 56 groups for mothers and youths who are the active age, Aminit 28 groups and Kamutur 44 groups,” added Akol.
Major Victor Moses Ocan, the Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator Bukedea during the disbursement, tasked the group beneficiaries to own the initiative with the purpose of changing their lives.
“This money we are giving you today is from the Speaker but it’s now your money so ensure proper use of this money to change your lives, borrow this money and pay back to your groups only at interest of 4% ”, said Maj. Ocan.
Hajji Imran Muluga meanwhile assured close monitoring of the groups to ensure that it meets its targeted obligations.
“We are going to monitor these groups to see that money is handled for the right purpose,” said Muluga.
Beneficiaries that this reporter spoke to applauded Among for the initiative.
