SIRONKO DISTRICT

A Sub County Chief of Masaaba Sub County in Sironko district has found himself in trouble after local leaders mobilized a demonstration against shoddy works on Bubolo Health Center 11 that he contracted to himself.

Erick Waniala is being accused by the local leaders of giving himself the Shs6, 000,000 contract of fencing off the health facility and doing substandard work.

In a show of anger, Councilors and local leaders in Masaaba Sub County staged a demonstration today, 28th June 2022 where they dismantled all the metals the contractor was using in the construction of the fence.

Morris Kizamba, a councilor representing Bubolo parish says that in the 2021/2022 financial year, they passed a budget of 6M for fencing of the health center.

“It is very shameful to see a contractor known as Erick Waniala who is also Masaba Sub County chief doing work which was not agreed on.” Kizamba added.

Emmanuel Kambwa, the deputy speaker of Masaba Sub County also says that they agreed that the contractor must buy poles with barbed wires to fence the health center but that instead the contractor bought metal poles with cheap barbed wires.

Isaac Nabende, the LCII chairperson of Bubolo parish says that they have dismantled the poles which engineers were using for works until the rightful materials as agreed upon during the council seating are brought.

However, Erick Wanala refused to comment on the matter when contacted saying that he has to go to the site to see damages caused by the local leaders before getting back to our reporter.
